This specimen is a fascinating example of the extraordinary mineral diversity of the Namibian Kaokoveld region. The 1.4-centimeter main aggregate captivates with its deep, dark, almost mysterious coloration at the center, which transitions to a vibrant emerald green towards the ends. The clearly visible, finely needle-like structure is absolutely characteristic of primary malachite in its fibrous form and gives the crystal a beautiful, silky luster.
The specimen is made particularly attractive by its interplay with its surroundings. The dark malachite contrasts sharply with the light quartz or calcite matrix. The intense light blue phenocrysts, which are very likely typical companion minerals such as chrysocolla or shattuckite, add another vibrant layer of color. Together with the light green, younger mineral formations at the lower edge, this showpiece displays the classic paragenesis of a copper oxidation zone and is a true highlight for any Namibian regional collection.
