Rising to 2,711 metres, Weißeck is the highest summit of the Radstädter Tauern. Its celebrated Gipfelkluft lies at approximately 2,670 metres, steeply below the summit and accessible only under extremely demanding alpine conditions. For decades, this remarkable locality has produced some of Europe’s most distinctive Fluorites.
Complex geological conditions, tectonic stresses and natural weathering have influenced crystal formation at this high-alpine occurrence. Successive growth stages and multiple generations of crystallisation can produce extraordinary colour zoning, ranging from intense grape-red and icy blue to the famous pastel-rainbow variations. Beautifully preserved crystal faces are comparatively uncommon under these challenging natural conditions.
