A beautifully transparent Fluorite from the legendary Gipfelkluft of Weißeck, captivating with its elegant crystal development and a fascinating interplay of delicate internal colour zoning.
Its attractive, well-formed termination lends the crystal a particularly refined appearance, while its remarkable transparency allows the eye to explore the colourful crystalline interior. Subtle variations of colour merge harmoniously, giving the specimen a delightful sense of depth and vitality.
The real surprise, however, awaits on the reverse side. Here, the crystal reveals a particularly enchanting example of the miniature alpine rainbow for which Weißeck Fluorites have become so celebrated. When held against the light, the delicate colour zones appear to glow, creating a captivating interplay of transparency, luminosity and colour.
The famous Gipfelkluft lies at approximately 2,670 metres, steeply below the summit of Weißeck, which rises to 2,711 metres as the highest peak of the Radstädter Tauern. For decades, this exceptionally difficult-to-access locality has ranked among Europe’s most important alpine Fluorite occurrences.
Complex geological conditions, tectonic stresses and natural weathering have contributed to remarkable crystal formations. Multiple generations of crystal growth and an extraordinary variety of colour zoning, including the celebrated pastel-rainbow variations, give Weißeck Fluorites their unmistakable character. Beautifully preserved crystal faces are far from common under these demanding alpine conditions.
