Alpine Fluorite - Summit Cleft, Weisseck, Lungau 🇦🇹

An exceptionally fascinating Alpine Fluorite from the spectacular 2025/2026 discoveries at the legendary Summit Cleft of Weißeck in Austria’s Radstädter Tauern mountains. A remarkable specimen distinguished by its intense colour zoning, intricate crystal architecture and extraordinary Alpine geological heritage.

Its most captivating feature is undoubtedly the spectacular interplay of colours. Brilliant, almost electric violet dominates the upper section, gradually transitioning through deep blue into luminous ice blue, turquoise and delicate greenish hues. These extraordinary colour variations create fascinating visual depth, revealing an ever-changing appearance under different lighting conditions.

Of particular mineralogical interest is the pronounced, intricately terraced crystal surface. Numerous finely developed growth steps, staircase-like formations and intersecting geometric patterns reflect a complex history of crystal growth. The intensely violet areas provide a magnificent contrast to the lighter, partly translucent blue and turquoise sections.

The famous Summit Cleft is situated at approximately 2,670 metres above sea level, on the steep slopes just below the 2,711-metre summit of Weißeck. For decades, this remote and challenging Alpine locality has been recognised as one of Austria’s most remarkable Fluorite occurrences. Successive growth phases and changing conditions within the Alpine fissure have produced the fascinating colour zoning, intricate growth structures and occasional phantom formations for which Weißeck Fluorites are so highly appreciated by discerning collectors.

The remarkable discoveries of 2025/2026 have attracted particular attention for their extraordinary diversity of colours. This specimen beautifully combines the distinctive aesthetics of Alpine crystal growth with a striking contrast between deep violet and luminous blue and turquoise tones.
