A wonderfully unconventional and exceptionally captivating hand-sized specimen from the legendary Gipfelkluft of Weißeck, distinguished by its remarkable colour contrasts and unusual crystal architecture.

At the heart of this fascinating composition lies a substantial mass of Fluorite displaying an irresistible candy-blue colour. The attractive, potentially facetable material exhibits a wonderfully intense hue, gradually transitioning into numerous delicate, grape-red Fluorite crystals. This striking contrast between luminous blue and rich wine-red gives the specimen an unmistakable personality.

Adding yet another fascinating dimension is a dense carpet of tiny Calcite crystals, partially covering the fine red Fluorite crystallisation. The interplay between the substantial candy-blue Fluorite, intricate red crystals and delicate Calcite overgrowth creates an unusually sculptural and visually compelling mineral assemblage.

Rising to 2,711 metres, Weißeck is the highest summit of the Radstädter Tauern and home to one of Europe’s most important alpine Fluorite localities. Its famous Gipfelkluft lies at approximately 2,670 metres, steeply below the summit and accessible only under extremely demanding alpine conditions. For decades, this remarkable locality has produced some of Europe’s most distinctive alpine Fluorites.

Complex crystal-growth conditions, tectonic stresses and natural weathering have contributed to the extraordinary character of these specimens. Multiple generations of crystallisation and an impressive spectrum of colours, ranging from intense grape-red and characteristic blue to delicate rainbow-like pastel zoning, make Weißeck Fluorites truly distinctive. Perfectly preserved crystal faces are comparatively uncommon under these challenging natural conditions.

The remarkable combination of candy-blue, potentially gem-quality Fluorite, grape-red crystallisation and delicate Calcite overgrowth makes this a particularly distinctive collector’s specimen. A fascinating example of the extraordinary diversity and unexpected beauty of the legendary Weißeck locality!

In traditional crystal healing, blue Fluorite is associated with mental clarity, tranquillity and harmonious communication, while Calcite symbolises renewal, optimism and positive energy. These spiritual associations are not scientifically established.
