This finely cut green gemstone originates from the classic German locality of Eifel, a region renowned for its complex volcanic geology and the famous Hauynite.

In the local tradition of the Eifel, such green material has long been referred to as “volcanic glass.” From a strict mineralogical perspective, volcanic glass would typically be classified as Obsidian.

However, in the context of the Eifel occurrences particularly in connection with the well known blue mineral Haüyne collectors occasionally refer to certain green materials as “green Haüyne.”

In this particular case the stone has not been analytically tested, so it remains uncertain whether the material is truly a green variety of Haüyne or simply a naturally colored volcanic glass from the same geological environment.

The rough material was reportedly found in the 1990s within the volcanic fields of the Eifel and later cut in the historic German gem cutting center of Idar‑Oberstein, internationally famous for its long tradition of gemstone cutting and lapidary craftsmanship.

The gemstone itself is absolutely eyeclean and displays an excellent polish and brilliance. Its clear, fresh green color combined with its flawless clarity gives the stone an elegant appearance.
