Gemmy dogtooth calcite crystals with rich, luster, grown in classic scalenohedral habit. Several crystal groups evoke the appearance of a delicate flower bouquet, aesthetically arranged on a contrasting limonite matrix.
The specimen originates from the historic Winterberg quarry at the Iberg and comes from the personal collection of Gerd Seggelke, the longstanding former foreman of the quarry.
Under UV light, the calcite displays a beautiful and vivid fluorescence, adding an additional layer of visual appeal.
The Iberg is one of the most significant geological and historical sites in the Harz region. Its famous Iberg Dripstone Caves (Iberger Tropfsteinhöhlen) are among the oldest show caves in Germany and testify to a complex karst history spanning hundreds of millions of years.
The surrounding limestone massif was already of importance in prehistoric times, as evidenced by archaeological finds within the cave system. The Winterberg quarry, located at the Iberg, has long been renowned among collectors for producing classic Harz calcite specimens, many of which are today unobtainable due to reduced or ceased extraction. Pieces with secure provenance from quarry insiders are therefore of particular historical and collector value.
From a healing-stone perspective, calcite is traditionally associated with mental clarity, emotional balance, and the gentle amplification of positive energy. Dogtooth calcite in particular is said to support motivation and structured thinking while helping to dissolve stagnant or heavy emotional patterns. Combined with limonite, the stone is often regarded as grounding, strengthening inner stability, and supporting endurance and confidence.
