Brazilianite on Albite – Yellow-Green Crystal amid White Albite Fans | Córrego Frio, Brazil

Striking color contrast and a beautifully sculptural albite group define this appealing specimen from the Córrego Frio Mine. A prominent yellow-green brazilianite sits along the side of an intricate ensemble of white to cream-colored albite crystals. Its rich color provides a luminous focal point against the pale, almost blossom-like crystal arrangement.

The elongated prismatic brazilianite displays broad side faces and a clearly developed termination composed of inclined faces. Translucent areas and locally more transparent sections lend visual depth. Fine surface textures, small steps, and scattered pale deposits add detail to its appearance.

The albite deserves equal attention. Tabular to bladed crystals form overlapping fans and locally rosette-like groups. Layered blades, finely stepped edges, and differently inclined faces create a lively three-dimensional structure. The video reveals how the silhouette changes as the specimen turns, bringing the brazilianite into view between the pale albite blades from different angles. Glassy reflections from the brazilianite complement the softer, locally pearly sheen of the feldspar.

Brazilianite is a relatively rare monoclinic sodium aluminium phosphate. The phosphate-rich pegmatites around Linópolis are classic sources of the species, with albite, a sodium feldspar, among their characteristic associated minerals. Research on the regional deposits suggests that brazilianite formed through early hydrothermal alteration of montebrasite.

The Córrego Frio Mine holds particular historical significance as the type locality of brazilianite. Material from this deposit formed the basis of the species’ first scientific description in 1945, giving this specimen the added appeal of a mineralogically important provenance.

A harmonious combination for collectors who appreciate both a colorful focal crystal and the beauty of its associated minerals—rich in detail, visually balanced, and full of individual character.

In modern crystal traditions, brazilianite is associated with creativity, self-confidence, and the courage to pursue personal goals.
