This site existed only for a few months during the construction of the Mittelland Canal near Hanover. Large ammonites were found there, often rolled, with a remarkably well-preserved, calcified shell, and several associated minerals such as sphalerite (frequent) and also rhodochrosite (on more than one occasion).
This specimen clearly contains at least sphalerite; I prefer not to break it open in order to inspect the interior.
